Descrizione

Luogosanto offers to any good traveller the ideal refuge to rest up in contact with a strong yet docile nature, a proud and hospitable culture.

Its strategic position allows to reach in a half an hour's drive all the renowned beaches of Aglientu, Arzachena, Palau, Santa Teresa and Trinità, but also the mountains and the town of Tempio Pausania.

Luogosanto's territory itself can offer the visitor an entire week of exciting experiences, making it an unavoidable stop-over even for those who stay on the coast but want to know the inner Gallura. The weather is mild, and the presence of several accommodations and restaurants, tourism associations and businesses, cultural and commercial activities make the trip pleasant and varied in every season of the year.

Luogosanto is the perfect destination for those who love active and sustainable travel: travellers can entertain themselves with trekking, cycling, horse riding, bouldering, canoeing and yoga.

Those who prefer the calm and the meditation of both human and natural holy places can freely visit the basilica-sanctuary, the other two city churches, the hermitage of San Trano, the museum hosted in the ancient Franciscan convent, twenty rural churches and seven fascinating old ruins, all of them immersed in wonderful landscapes or close to natural parks and monuments such as Crisciuleddu's centenarian cork oak and the park belonging to La Filetta's source. Nor there is lack of forest parks, botanical gardens, fountains and panoramic viewpoints. Moreover, it's possible to visit farms such as herbalist's, vineyards, vegetable gardens, stazzi, cheese factories and a pottery workshop.

Those who are passionate about archaeology will discover in Luogosanto not only the ever-present remains of the majestic Nuragic civilization (not to be missed, the “reunion hut” of Monti Casteddu) and the Neolithic (the cave-like stones or tafoni, used in the past for both living and burial purpose), but especially the highest concentration of medieval remains in Gallura: Balajana Castle, Baldu's Palace and the religious architectures.

Travelling is known to whet the appetite. Travellers will easily satisfy it thanks to Luogosanto's food and wine specialties and the typical meal of the region: handmade pasta (cjusoni and pulilgioni, whose traditional version has a slightly sweet filling) seasoned with the traditional sauces (also vegetarian), or the suppa cuata (known as “zuppa gallurese”), the cured meats and the roasts (with both farm-raised meat or game, especially boar meat), the cheeses (the most typical is a kneaded curd cheese made of cow's milk), all washed down with a good Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG or with a local red. Finally, Sardinian traditional pastries (siati, cucciuleddi, papassini, acciuledd'e meli) and a sip of myrtle liquor are the best way to end the meal.
